03.07.12 The LSU Health Sciences Center (E.A. Conway Medical Center) in Monroe this week reopened the doors to its Women, Infants & Children, or WIC, clinic to serve northeast Louisiana residents.
LSU-Shreveport had discontinued providing WIC services at the Monroe center Nov. 30, 2010, though the reason for its closure was not available as of press time. The clinic had been serving 2,293 people per month, but local residents were served by two remaining WIC clinics, said Department of Health and Hospital spokesman Ken Pastorick.
Now, the Department of Health and Hospitals' Office of Public Health Nutrition Program, along with the LSU-Shreveport, has re-established WIC services at LSU-Monroe through a WIC contract to provide the Monroe area more access to these services, he said.
