The following is a statement from the Louisiana State Medical Society regarding Gov. Jindal’s FY 2012-2013 Executive Budget presented to the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, and is attributable to LSMS President Andy Blalock, MD:

We are deeply concerned reimbursement rates are in jeopardy of being reduced for physicians providing services to Medicaid recipients. Although the increase of primary care provider rates required by federal healthcare reform shields some physicians from the proposed cuts, possible further rate reductions for the non-primary care providers will force many to seriously assess the economic feasibility of participating as a provider in the Medicaid program. Until we are able to speak to the Jindal administration concerning any proposed reductions, it would be premature to speak in any specific terms. However, we will actively monitor the situation to ensure that all patients in the Medicaid system continue to receive adequate access to care.
