And for the first time since Hurricane Katrina, the city moved one step closer toward repairing its long-suffering health care infrastructure.
The first significant step took place in September when the legislature's Joint Budget Committee gave final approval to a new financing plan that reduced the overall cost of the 424-bed University Medical Center by $100 million and its annual state appropriations from $100 million to $60 million.
