01.03.12 Louisiana has one of the longest waiting lists in the nation for people wanting to receive medication through a program that helps people who are HIV-positive.
The Advocate reports that 3e in the number of people waiting to receive medication through the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. ADAP leverages state and federal funds to help those who are HIV-positive and who do not have private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare.
As of Dec. 21, Louisiana had 596 people on a waiting list, according to the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, or NASTAD, which tracks ADAP waiting lists.
