10.20.11 Gov. Bobby Jindal recently announced the appointment of LSMS member Lehrue Stevens to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
Stevens, of Lake Charles, is a pathologist at The Pathology Laboratory and has practiced for more than 40 years.
According to statute, the board is comprised of seven gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Four members are selected from nominations submitted by the LSMS, of whom one must practice in a parish or municipality with a population of less than 20,000 people. Additionally, two members are selected from nominees submitted by the Louisiana Medical Association and one member is selected from nominees submitted by the Louisiana Academy of Family Practice Physicians.
The La. State Board of Medical Examiners serves to regulate the practice of medicine in Louisiana by examining all applicants and issuing licenses or permits to those possessing necessary qualifications.
