10.11.11  An 81-year-old woman has died after contracting a strain of listeria that has been determined to be the same that was found in recalled cantaloupes produced by a farm in Colorado. The Department of Health and Hospitals confirmed in a news release late Friday that the woman died in a Shreveport hospital and cantaloupe was found in her refrigerator. However, DHH said the woman's relatives have told state epidemiologists they are unsure whether she had eaten the melon.  The Associated PressHealth officials said this is the first known outbreak of the deadly listeria in cantaloupe. Listeria is generally found in processed meats and unpasteurized milk and cheese, though there have been a growing number of outbreaks in produce.   Read the entire article at the Associated Press.
