WHEN: Monday, Nov. 7 Registration and exhibits — 10:30 to 11 a.m. General session — 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Physicians’ session — 5 to 8:30 p.m. WHERE: Pennington Biomedical Research Center 6400 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge WHO: Keynote Speaker: Bruce Greenstein, Secretary, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Additional speakers include Dr. Timothy Church, professor and clinical researcher at Pennington Biomedical Research Center; Nebeyou Abebe, project manager, consumer engagement, for Louisiana Public Health Institute; Cyndy Nayer, president, CEO and co-founder of the Center for Health Value Innovation; Dr. Jack Mahoney, author and founder of the Center for Health Value Innovation; Cindy Munn, executive director of the Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum; and Dr. Kenneth Phenow, senior vice president and chief medical officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. This kick-off event sets the stage for statewide initiatives focused on diabetes prevention and treatment. Recognizing diabetes as a threat with far-reaching implications is crucial. This epidemic poses healthcare, social and economic dangers to our society. A diverse team of clinicians, policymakers, researchers, business leaders and pharmaceutical industry representatives will take the field in two sessions—one aimed at the general business audience and community-based organizations, and one focused on the physician perspective.
