CME IN THE JOURNAL

CME FOR LEAD AUTHORS

Twelve (12) hours of continuing medical education (CME) credit is provided free to LSMS members through the Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society (Journal) each year, a $300 value.  LSMS members can earn CME credit at their own convenience without having to leave their offices. Non-LSMS members must include a check in the amount of $25.00 per credit hour payable to LSMS Educational and Research Foundation. Answers must be postmarked or faxed within one (1) year. Participants must attain a minimum score of 75% to receive credit. Journal CME activities are included in LSMS membership benefits.

TWO WAYS TO EARN CME BY READING THE JOURNAL:

  1. To earn CME credit, read the CME articles offered in the Journal and complete the Continuing Medical Education Answer and Registration Form located in the back of each issue. Mail or fax the form to:

  1. Only LSMS members have the opportunity to earn CME credit online. Click on the links below to read the CME articles offered in the Journal. Complete the accompanying interactive answer sheet for each CME article.

    When completing the online answer sheets, you must complete all required fields on the form. When you are done, click the 'Submit by Email' button at the bottom of the page. On the 'Select Email Client' prompt, click 'Other' and follow the directions:

    Step 1 : Click 'Save Data File' button and save the data on your computer to a place where you can find it easily. After you save the file, you will be returned to the 'Sending the Data File Screen' to continue.

    Step 2 : Create a new email message as you normally would. If you use Internet email and are viewing this form online, open a new browser window so you can keep this window open. Fill in the email as indicated in the instructions.

    Step 3 : Attach the data file you saved in Step 1 and send your message.

    Click the 'Print Form' button if you would like a copy for your records.

    CME FOR LEAD AUTHORS

    Physicians may claim AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM directly from the AMA for learning that occurs as a result of publishing articles. Credit can be awarded only for articles published within the last three years. Applicants should keep a copy of the application and supporting documentation submitted.

    Credit may be claimed only for meeting the following two criteria:

    • Publishing an article in a journal as a lead author; and

    • The journal must be included in the MEDLINE bibliographic database.

    Credit will not be given for editing activities or contributions to books. Supporting documentation requirements include a reprint or copy of each article's first page with a listing of authors and the publication date(s). The AMA will award 10 credits per article.
