of LSMS Membership
Active
A
Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy who is licensed to practice medicine by
the Louisiana State Board of Medical
Examiners (LSBME) and who practices medicine full time.
Active Part-Time
A
Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy who is licensed to practice medicine by
the Louisiana State Board of Medical
Examiners (LSBME) and who practices medicine for a maximum of twenty (20)
hours per week.
Associate
A fully retired who physician
who held an unrestricted license to practice medicine in another state
at retirement, and has since moved to Louisiana.
Resident
A physician that is serving an internship or residency in a Louisiana
hospital approved by the Council on Medical Education of the
American
Medical Association.
Medical Student
A student who is in good standing with a medical school in
Louisiana approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
Academic
A
physician who is predominantly engaged in teaching, administration, or
research in an approved medical school.
Service
A physician who is a member of a branch of the United States Military, the
United States Public Health Service, the United States Coast Guard, or
the Veterans Administration. Service members need not be licensed to
practice medicine in the state of Louisiana.
Affiliate
A physician who is a member of a chartered, national medical society of
a foreign country, or an American physician who is a Louisiana resident
located in a foreign country. Affiliate members need not be licensed to
practice medicine in the state of Louisiana.
Corresponding
A physician who has been a member of the LSMS, and is now residing in
another state. Corresponding members must remain licensed to practice
medicine in the state of Louisiana.
Please Note:
All members must be of good ethical and moral character. In addition, all
members (with the exception of Service, Affiliate, and Corresponding
Members) must be a member in good standing of a component parish society.
